School Re-Opening Plans Announced

July 21, 2020

Dear Beaver Dam Schools Families:

Welcome to a new school year!  Our upcoming school year is quite unique and challenging, however we are excited to get back to student education.  Our school year begins on Monday, August 10th.  The Governor of Arizona prohibits in-person attendance at school until August 17th.  As a result our first week of school, August 10th-15th, will be through Distance Learning for all students.  Chrome Books will be available at registration if you need to check one out.  There is no technology fee the first week.  If you are continuing past the first week and want to use a school owned Chrome Book a fee may be charged, however, you can request a fee waiver if you cannot pay this due to financial hardship.  Our school board approved three different options for students to attend school:

Option A In-Person Learning

This is the traditional model where students will attend on our school campuses each day, according to our school calendar.  We will be following the CDC recommendations for COVID 19 which include physical distancing, frequent hand washing, frequent cleaning and disinfecting and we are recommending students wear face coverings (masks) when physical distancing cannot be attained.

Option B Hybrid Model

This is a combination of in-person attendance at school coupled with Distance Learning.  Students registering for this model will come to school on Monday and Tuesday in-person each week.  On Wednesday through Friday they will have assignments to complete through Distance Learning.  Distance Learning can include packets related to the weekly instruction or assignments they complete through their on-line curriculum or through Google.  Distance Learning attendance is tracked by turning in daily assignments and through a required Parent Attestation Form electronically signed each week by the parent/guardian.  A Distance Learning Contract will be required.  The student’s best chance for success selecting this model is to have access to internet at home.  School issued Chrome Books can be used or you can use your own device.  A technology use fee of $50/semester is charged if using a school issued Chrome Book; however, fee waivers may be considered and approved by the Superintendent on an individual basis.

Option C Distance Learning

This is when a student will be completing all of their assignments and classwork at home.  Students registering for this model have an increased responsibility to be motivated to complete their work and will check in weekly with the teachers.  The assignments will be available through on-line curriculum or through Google.  Attendance is tracked by turning in daily assignments and through a required Parent Attestation Form electronically signed each week by the parent/guardian.  The best chance for success in this model is to have access to internet at home.  School issued Chrome Books can be used or you can use your own device.  A technology use fee of $50/semester is charged if using a school issued Chrome Book; however, fee waiver may be considered and approved by the Superintendent on an individual basis.

No matter which option you select for your child, the district is here to support you in doing what is best. We do ask you to consider the options carefully as we will allow only one change to uphold the continuity of your child’s learning.  If you have questions please call your school office and we will be happy to assist you.  Please call Beaver Dam Elementary School at 928-347-5796 or Beaver Dam JH/HS at 928-347-5252.

Sincerely,

Darlene McCauley, Superintendent
