Dear Families and Students,
On behalf of the Beaver Dam Elementary staff, I would like to welcome you to the 2017-18 school year! We have all been busily preparing for the year and can’t wait for the kids to roll in excited and ready to learn. It is going to be a great year!
I am absolutely thrilled to be your new principal at Beaver Dam Elementary School and am looking forward to meeting each and every one of you! I am eager to learn all about what you love about our little school and what your hopes for our kids are going forward. I will make sure we have lots of opportunities to get to know each other and to share ideas with each other.
My style is very collaborative. I believe that when parents, staff, and students are actively involved in decisions about our school, we create a school that is inclusive, collaborative, and uniquely ours. Because of this, I don’t have a lot to share with you yet about things like our school goals for the year. However, I am currently learning all I can about our school, and as I have the opportunity to have some good conversations with our staff, with you, and with our kids, I will be able to provide more information to you about the specifics of the year. For now, you can expect some changes, but for the most part we will launch the school year off of the solid foundation and traditions that have been built leading up to now. Thank you in advance for both your flexibility and for your willingness to share your ideas.
Here is a little information about me. I began my career in education as a teacher in Clark County School District. Since then I taught in Washington County School District and served as an instructional coach there. Recently, I served as principal of a beautiful elementary school in Monument Valley, Utah. It is a school that serves the Navajo community of the Utah strip. It is Title 1. It is rural. It serves students from PreK-6th grade. It has rich culture and an unshakeable resilience. I absolutely loved all of these things about it!
When I returned to St. George a year ago, I felt lost without the school community I loved, the connectedness I felt in the community, and the important work we were doing with our kids and community. When I learned about the principal opening at Beaver Dam Elementary, I was so extremely excited by the possibility! It felt like an opportunity to return to a school community like the one I loved so dearly and to the important work I love to do. And, just as importantly, it felt like an exciting new opportunity to learn all about a new community and to get to know and work with new amazing kids and families. I have only been on the job for a few weeks, but already it feels like I’m home again. I feel so grateful to be here and really look forward getting to know all of you and all things Beaver Dam.
I just want to assure you that I am determined to do right by our kids, teachers, and community and would like to thank you in advance for your support of me and our school, and for your commitment to be actively involved in our little school in whatever ways you can be. Together, we can provide our kids with the opportunities they deserve.
See you soon!
